Library Summer Reading Kickoff

The East Rutherford Public Library is having its annual summer reading kickoff program on June 19, 2019 from 2-4 p.m. There will also be a free petting zoo and pony rides at the library on this date. The petting zoo will be on the grounds of the library, with a rain date of June 20th from 2-4 p.m.

"Alzheimer's 101" program at the Library: This program will provide a comprehensive overview for anyone who wants to learn about memory loss, Alzheimer's disease, and other forms of dementia. Information about risk factors and warning signs, steps to obtaining a diagnosis, and treatment options will be discussed. Planning for the future, coping with behavioral and other changes, and accessing community resources will also be reviewed. East Rutherford teens organize 6/11 Festival focused on suicide prevention

Four years ago, two 16-year-olds from East Rutherford had an idea for an event that would draw attention to the growing number of suicides in New Jersey. In 2013, high school freshman Faith Banca and Rebecca Cruz organized the first Sing into the Sunlight Concert & Festival. On Saturday, June 11, 2016, the fourth annual event will again put a spotlight on suicide prevention and awareness.

Teens assisting seniors with tech - March 7-12, 2016

computer keyboardEast Rutherford teens will be volunteering their tech-savvy skills to seniors who are interested in learning social media or improving their computer knowledge. These one-on-one sessions will take place at the East Rutherford Memorial Library during "Teen Tech Week", Monday, March 7 through Saturday, March 12. If you ever wanted to learn how to tweet, open an e-mail account, or create a Facebook account, this is your chance. Priority will be given to East Rutherford residents. Free Seedling Trees - Saturday, April 25, 2015

Celebrate Arbor Day and get your FREE TREE seedling at the Rutherford Community Garden, 280 Erie Avenue, Rutherford, on Saturday, 4/25 from 9 am to 1 pm! Take part in New Jersey's Tree Recovery Campaign to help replace trees lost in the hurricanes, superstorms and snowstorms of the last few years.

There are a variety of 1-2 feet tall seedlings available on a first-come, first-served basis, including Redbuds, Dogwoods, various Oak varieties, Ironwood/Hophornbeams, Basswood/Lindens and the evergreens Norway Spruce and Douglas Firs, among others. Help keep East Rutherford green and beautiful!

Planting instructions are provided, but remember to research your species and consider the size of the tree when fully grown so that you plant in the right place, being mindful of overhead and underground utility lines and proximity to structures. Call 811 before digging!

Dedication of Anthony Gallo Park

Anthony Gallo ParkOn Saturday, October 18, 2014, the Grove Street Park will be renamed and dedicated to Seaman First Class Anthony Gallo.

Anthony was awarded numerous metals for his service including: Military Order of the Purple Heart; WWII Victory Medal; American Campaign Medal; Good Conduct Medal; Asian Pacific Campaign Medal with Battle Stars; and the Philippine Liberation Medal. Anthony was later recognized by the State of New Jersey and awarded the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal and the Bergen County Medal of Honor.

All are invited and encouraged to attend. Grove Street will be closed from Mozart to Clinton from approximately 12:30-2:30pm.
